The short version
- An SEO SaaS platform analyses your site from the outside and reports findings. An SEO MCP server plugs a knowledge base into your AI coding tool so it can act on your source files.
- They overlap very little. The SaaS owns diagnosis and competitor data; the MCP owns implementation.
- MCP code changes need repository access. Knowledge, analytics and public-page tools can work without it, depending on the server.
- We build one of these, so this page is a direct conflict of interest. The capability table scores us on the same rubric as everyone else.
The Model Context Protocol made a shape of tool possible that did not exist before, and it is genuinely different from what SEO software has looked like for twenty years. Whether any of it is useful to you comes down to one question: can you change your own website?
We should be direct about the conflict here. This blog is published by the company that makes one of the tools being compared. Everything below is checkable against the capability table, where we take the zeroes we have earned, and against the free path described at the end, which involves paying us nothing.
What each one actually is
Reading down the middle column, the SaaS product is clearly the more capable tool by feature count. Reading the "what it produces" row explains why both exist: a report and a code change are different artefacts, and only one of them alters what is actually published.
Capability rubric
Two columns the suites leave blank are ours: implementing the fix, and working inside your codebase. Where we show partial, that is the AI doing the reasoning without a licensed dataset underneath it: it can check a position or find the questions people ask, it just has no daily history or clickstream panel. The one flat zero is the backlink index, because nobody replicates a web-scale crawl.
Which one you actually need
The fourth row rules a lot of people out and is worth stating plainly rather than burying. If your website is managed by an agency, or sits on a platform you cannot deploy to, an MCP-based tool has nothing to offer you. That is a genuine limitation of the category rather than a gap in any particular product.
The free path, in full
The underlying method costs nothing and does not require our product. If you have an AI coding tool (Claude Code, Cursor or similar) and access to your repository, you can point it at your own codebase and work through the same fixes: meta titles and descriptions, valid structured data, heading hierarchy, internal linking, extractable answers.
What the hosted version adds is the research step: it checks your pages, hands the assistant the fixes in order and remembers what it already fixed, so the model is not working from whatever it happens to have absorbed about SEO. That is worth $5 a month to some people and not to others. Both are legitimate conclusions, and the free route is free, not a trial.
