Invisible Character Finder

Finds hidden characters in text, shows what and where they are, removes them, and offers blank characters to copy.

Runs in your browser. The file or text you give it is not uploaded. Free, no account.

How it works

You pasted text that looked fine and a form still rejected it. Somewhere in there is a character you cannot see. Paste it here and every hidden or look-alike character is marked in place with its name and code point. Remove them in one click, or keep the normal spaces and line breaks.

  1. 1

Paste text and every invisible or look-alike character is marked in place with its name and code point.

  2. 2

One click removes them all, or you can keep the normal spaces and line breaks.

  3. 3

A second panel has the blank characters people use for empty names and messages, ready to copy.

What it does not do

  • Some invisible characters are needed: joiners inside emoji and in scripts such as Arabic and Hindi. The cleaner leaves those in place by default.

When a source is busy or a site does not answer, this tool says so. It never fills the gap with a guess.

Questions

Why does my form reject text that looks fine?

A character with no width is still a character. A zero-width space or a non-breaking space looks like a gap, but software treats it as different from the space bar. Fields that check for exact text, or code that compares two strings, see the difference and reject the value. Paste the text into the finder to see which characters are there and where.

Will removing them break my emoji or Arabic text?

Some of these characters do real work. Zero-width joiners hold emoji sequences together and shape letters in scripts such as Arabic and Hindi. Removing one can split an emoji or change how a word looks. The cleaner leaves those in place by default, so you can clear the stray characters and keep the ones the text needs.

How do I type a blank name or empty message?

The second panel has blank characters ready to copy: characters with no visible width that still count as text. Copy one and paste it into the field you want to fill. A site may still reject blank input or strip it on save, so check the result after you submit.
