Domain Authority Checker

Scores a domain from 0 to 100 by its position in the open web link graph, and shows the positions behind the score.

How it works

You want to compare your site with a competitor, and you want to know where the number comes from. Paste a domain and this tool gives it a score from 0 to 100, based on its position in the Common Crawl web graph. It also shows both positions behind the score.

  1. 1

The score comes from a Common Crawl web-graph dataset. Coverage and freshness depend on that dataset, not a complete live link inventory.

  2. 2

Each domain has two positions in that graph. Harmonic centrality measures how close it is to every other site through links. PageRank measures how much link value flows into it.

  3. 3

The score is the average of the two on a logarithmic scale: position 1 scores 100 and every tenfold drop costs about 12 points. Compare up to five domains at once.

What it does not do

  • It is not Moz Domain Authority or Ahrefs Domain Rating. Those are private scores from private link indexes; this one is built from open data with the formula shown.

  • The lookup has limited domain coverage. Missing domains use a disclosed coverage proxy; source failure is Unmeasured, not a score of zero.

  • No authority score is a Google ranking factor. Use it to compare sites.

When a source is busy or a site does not answer, this tool says so. It never fills the gap with a guess.

Questions

Is this the same as Moz Domain Authority?

No. Moz Domain Authority and Ahrefs Domain Rating are private scores from private link indexes. This one is built from Common Crawl, which is open, and the formula is shown: harmonic centrality and PageRank averaged on a logarithmic scale. No authority score is a Google ranking factor. Use it to compare sites.

Why does my domain come back as under 10?

A domain outside lookup coverage is labelled below coverage and uses a disclosed proxy; that is not a measured Google authority score. If the source lookup fails, the result is Unmeasured rather than zero. Compare covered domains with those limitations in mind.

How is the score worked out?

Each domain has two positions in the Common Crawl web graph. Harmonic centrality measures how close it is to every other site through links. PageRank measures how much link value flows into it. The score averages the two on a logarithmic scale: position 1 scores 100, and every tenfold drop costs about 12 points.
