Image Converter

Converts images between JPEG, PNG and WebP in your browser, with optional resizing.

Runs in your browser. The file or text you give it is not uploaded. Free, no account.

How it works

A design tool hands you a PNG and the upload form wants JPEG. Or a WebP that a colleague on an older browser cannot open. Drop the file in, choose the output format, resize by width, height or percentage if you need to, and download the result.

  1. 1

Drop in images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF where your browser can read it) and choose the output format.

  2. 2

Resize by width, height or percentage, keeping the proportions.

  3. 3

Converting a transparent image to JPEG fills the background with a colour you choose.

What it does not do

  • An animated GIF converts as its first frame only.

  • Writing AVIF is not offered: browsers can show it but cannot yet create it.

When a source is busy or a site does not answer, this tool says so. It never fills the gap with a guess.

Questions

Why did my transparent logo turn black in the JPEG?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so a transparent area has to become a solid colour. The converter fills the background with the colour you pick before writing the file. If the result looks wrong, set the fill colour to match the page or document the image will sit on, then convert again.

My animated GIF only kept the first frame. Is that a bug?

No, that is the documented limit. The converter reads the first frame and writes a still image. For an animation you need a tool that keeps every frame and the timing data, or you keep the original GIF. If you only needed a still from the animation, the first frame is usually the one you want.

Can I convert to AVIF?

No. Browsers can display AVIF but cannot yet write it, so the converter does not offer it as an output. You can use AVIF files as input where your browser can read them. If you need AVIF output, use a native encoder outside the browser.
